Birthright AFRICA inspires youth and young adults of African descent ages 13 - 30 to explore their cultural roots and legacy of innovation within the United States and select nations in Africa as a birthright. Through travel and project-based learning in collaboration with our partners, they aim to instill pride, enhance confidence, and spark the creativity of our Scholars to fulfill their leadership and entrepreneurial aspirations.

About Birthright AFRICA

Over the past three years, Birthright AFRICA has been committed to providing a free educational trip to Africa for every youth and young adults of African descent in the United States. With partners including the City University of New York (CUNY) and Frederick Douglass Academy High School VII as well as community-based organizations GrowHouse NYC, Inspiring Minds, and the Urban Sankofa Project, 61 Scholars of African descent have received the birthright opportunity to explore the historic and present-day resilience and brilliance of their heritage. Scholars visited cultural sites, museums, universities, and innovation partners – organizations managed, owned or led by people of African descent with exploration beginning in U.S. cities like New York and Washington, DC, culminating with a global trip to African nations including Ghana and South Africa.

Only 2% of US managers, leaders, and entrepreneurs are of African descent. To address this gap in diversity and talent, Birthright AFRICA is creating the next generation of global leaders and entrepreneurs that are proud of their African heritage, confident in their innovative aspirations and connected to the African continent.
